Does VAER Avoid Seed Oils in its Skincare?
Seed oils - like sunflower, safflower, grapeseed, and soybean - are everywhere in skincare, and most are highly processed. At VAER, we avoid the highly processed seed oils completely. Here’s why...
Seed oils are extremely high in polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), especially linoleic acid. PUFAs are chemically unstable - they oxidize easily when exposed to air, heat, or light. That oxidation creates free radicals, which damage skin cells, break down collagen, and accelerate aging.
On top of that, these oils are often refined using heat and solvents in factories that resemble fossil fuel processing plants, which degrade nutrients and introduce inflammatory byproducts.
Even if they feel lightweight and absorb quickly, seed oils don’t nourish or support the skin’s barrier. And once they go rancid (which happens faster than you think), they can become irritants - especially for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Many companies label them as “vegetable oils” to make them sound healthier or more natural, but they’re often highly refined and biologically unstable.
At VAER, we use only stable, skin-native fats like grass-fed tallow, cold-pressed jojoba oil, and beeswax because your skin deserves ingredients that support healing, not silent damage.
